KPBS General Manager Deanna Mackey Named to CDP Board of Directors

Boston, MA (September 12, 2022) – Contributor Development Partnership (CDP) today announced the appointment of Deanna Mackey to the CDP Board of Directors. CDP is an independent public benefit corporation serving and supporting the development needs of public media stations across the U.S. With this appointment, the Board will be comprised of seven directors.

“We are very pleased to welcome Deanna Mackey to the CDP Board,” says Michal Heiplik, President of CDP. “Her extensive background in local public media, executive strategy skills and deep commitment to station collaboration will help CDP expand our impact and better serve local public media stations.”

Mackey is the general manager of KPBS in San Diego where she had previously served as COO from 2009 to 2015. Most recently, Mackey served as president of the Public Television Major Market Group (PTMMG), a consortium of the 40 largest PBS member stations in the U.S. where she focused her time on leadership, revenue generation and audience development on behalf of the group. She is also the cofounder of Public Media Women in Leadership (PMWIL), which provides programming and support to better prepare women and men of color to become senior leaders in public media. CDP is an active supporter of PMWIL’s Public Media CEO/COO bootcamp.

"I have followed CDP's work since its inception and been an advocate for its focus on encouraging stations to lead and strategize by using data as a guide," Mackey says. "I am excited to join the CDP board and work alongside Michal, Jon and the other board members to continue to advance adoption of best practices and innovation in fundraising, station collaboration/modeling and data strategy."

CDP Board Chair and GBH President Jon Abbott adds, “We are fortunate to have Deanna Mackey joining the CDP Board. She is among public media’s most forward-thinking leaders and has watched CDP evolve and grow through the years as a vital resource for the future growth and resilience for public media across our nation. Deanna brings to the board both her leadership experience with KPBS and with the PTV Major Market Group. She has always championed innovation and fresh thinking.”

About CDP

Founded as an initiative by GBH drawing together public media stations in strategic collaboration in 2011, CDP is now an independent public benefit corporation working on behalf of more than 230 public radio and television stations to share data across the system, analyze fundraising performance, and develop best practices. CDP’s mission is to grow net revenue for public media stations.

The “CDP idea” launched as an initiative by the Major Market Group of Public Television. With support from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and GBH, a group of stations built the industry’s first and only National Reference File, a tool used daily to help stations better understand areas of opportunity to increase their fundraising effectiveness and efficiency.
