NPR, PBS, CDP and Greater Public Host Inaugural Public Media Giving Day

A first-of-its-kind national event for public media’s fans that raises awareness and support for local stations across the country.

(Boston, MA) – April 25, 2023 – May 1–2, 2023 marks an event you won’t want to miss: Public Media Giving Days! NPR and PBS, as well as fundraising entities Greater Public and Contributor Development Partnership (CDP), are uniting to introduce this first-of-its-kind event in the hopes of bringing public media’s fans—of public television and radio alike—together as well. Celebrate with us and declare to all what the institution of public media means to you! 

Day One is about appreciation and advocacy. We want you to spread the word about public media and raise its place in the public consciousness. Talk to your friends and co-workers. Send emails or post on social media using the hashtag #PublicMediaGives. Assets will be provided via the Public Media Giving Days website (accessible at https://www.publicmediagivingdays.org/) to assist in your efforts. And don’t forget to enjoy! Watch your favorite drama or documentary. Tune in to your favorite show or podcast. Appreciate all that public media adds to your life!  

Then Day Two is about giving back. Be a part of helping public media continue to provide all that it does. And don’t stop there! Reach out to the people you spoke to on Day One and ask them to give, too.   

Today’s public media system recently celebrated its 50th anniversary. Over that time, it has made itself available to all, playing an important role in our democracy, providing educational resources to our youth and delighting us with well-done entertainment. And community involvement has always been at the heart of this mission and its success. On Public Media Giving Days, we ask you to find your own way to be a part of that involvement and encourage others to do the same.  

Public Media Giving Days will be a national event, bringing together local stations across the country. It’s an exciting opportunity to come together and celebrate an institution that’s an important part of the community. Help spread the word and be a part of supporting all that #PublicMediaGives.  

 

About CDP 
Founded as an initiative by GBH drawing together public media stations in strategic collaboration in 2011, CDP is now an independent public benefit corporation working on behalf of more than 230 public radio and television stations to share data across the system, analyze fundraising performance, and develop best practices. CDP’s mission is to grow net revenue for public media stations.  

The “CDP idea” launched as an initiative by the Major Market Group of Public Television. With support from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and GBH, a group of stations built the industry’s first and only National Reference File, a tool used daily to help stations better understand areas of opportunity to increase their fundraising effectiveness and efficiency.
